Hula Arts at Kīlauea Program

Situated on Kīlauea volcano the Volcano Art Center (VAC) promotes and perpetuates arts and culture. The dynamic location inspires the sharing of authentic Hula Kahiko performances as well as other arts and traditions of hula. VAC with support from Hawaiʻi Tourism’s Kukulu Ola Program is proud to announce free events which promote and perpetuate Native Hawaiian arts and culture. Join the Volcano Art Center on the second Saturday of each month for a free, live hula performance. The presentation is presented authentically in an outdoor setting, rain or shine without electronic amplification. Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats, and to arrive early as parking at the Visitor’s Center is limited, additional parking is available at the Steam Vents parking lot. The Volcano Art Center is a non-profit art and educational organization created in 1974 to promote, develop, and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawai‘i’s people and environment through activities in the visual, literary, and performing arts. Dink in Pink Pickleball Tournament

With the money raised last year, we were able to host in-person events for local breast cancer survivors and thrivers, including our first-ever day retreat right here, in Holualoa! Please help us raise funds for the upcoming year so that we can continue our mission of connecting local survivors and thrivers with resources and support - ensuring that no one feels alone in their cancer journey.
This event includes a virtual option where you can receive swag, participate in our online silent auction, and help us additionally fundraise for prizes.

This action-packed event brings together Hawai‘i's top spearfishers, innovative gear manufacturers, and the ocean community to celebrate Hawaiʻi’s rich freediving and spearfishing culture, along with FreeDiveSafe! Hawaiʻi’s four years of service. The event will begin with esteemed Hawaiian cultural expert Umi Zuke, who will open the event with a Pule, seeking protection for our ocean community and honoring the families who have lost loved ones to spearfishing. The festivities will commence with free workshops including SkeeProng’s Three-Prong Workshop, the Throw Net Workshop, and FreeDiveSafe’s freediving and spearfishing safety presentation. Explore free secondhand gear racks and vendor booths from top brands like Evolve Diving, participate in a silent auction for the chance to win prizes from donors like Waihana Wetsuits, Evolve Spearfishing, Kona Coffee and Tea, and more, or unwind with food, drinks, music, and conversation hosted by USA Spearfishing Champion Justin Lee. 2024 Hawai'i Island Steel Guitar Experience

The 2024 Hawai'i Island Steel Guitar Experience featuring the Hawai'i Island Steel Guitar Festival, will be held at the Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection, on Thursday through Sunday, November 21-24, 2024. The Experience will begin on Thursday, November 21, with school visitations and performances at the resort. The Hawai'i Island Steel Guitar Festival's ho'olaule'a concert will be held on Friday, November 22, followed by a public kanikapila.
The hotel's monthly Twilight at Kalāhuipua'a program featuring the Hawaiian steel guitar will be on Saturday, November 23, and include performances by festival artists and NextGen steel guitarists. A Sunday brunch entertainment and kanikapila will be offered on the lawn of the HāLani Restaurant. In addition to the main concert and the resort's Twilight at Kalāhuipua'a cultural program, the 2024 experience will also include school visits, workshops, Open Stage performances, a vintage steel guitar exhibit, and hands-on opportunities for festival guests.
Featured performers include Alan Akaka, Pōmai Brown, Kapono Lopes, Mālie Lyman, Devin Nakahara, Ed Punua, Dwight Tokumoto, and Geronimo "Geri" Valdriz.

Plant People Road Show

Featuring five Big Isle mom and pop nurseries, the Plant People Road Show is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Makaeo Pavilion at Old Kona Airport State Recreation Area. Admission is free. The bi-annual sale provides attendees the chance to talk directly to members of the local nursery community. The fall sale also offers shoppers the opportunity to decorate their homes and landscapes with fresh flowers and plants for the upcoming holiday season. Participating growers hail from around the island: • Chitosi Tsumura of C&T Products in Kea‘au features many different varieties and colors of long-lasting anthuriums. • Peter and Kay DeMello of DeMello Air Plants of Kona provide 50 varieties of easy-care air plants. • Jennifer Snyder and Bob Harris of OrchidPeople in Waimea offer their largest selection ever of cool and warm-tolerant cymbidium orchids. • Phoenicia and Bob Zeller of Pele’s Island Plants in Oceanview grow select and hard-to-find orchid varieties, assorted cactus and succulents. • Kari Hagerman of Pomaika‘i Plant Company of Waimea is bringing poinsettias, grafted fruit trees, herbs, veggies, bedding plants, lavender, hibiscus, Brindabella roses and Silver Dollar eucalyptus.
